Stitch by Stitch :: Mastering the Basics of Crochet

Crocheting is something I’ve wanted to learn for such a long time. My grandmother has been crocheting for as long as I can remember, but bless her heart, she isn’t a great teacher. I tried watching YouTube videos to learn, but I just could never pick it up. I had all but given up on ever learning how to crochet until I saw a Facebook post from Crochet Me This advertising a crochet class. Needless to say, I signed my daughter and me up ASAP!

I signed up for the class not knowing what to expect; I just knew that I wanted to learn, and this was my chance to do so. The class was offered every Friday for one month from 5:30 to 6:30, all levels were welcome, and all materials were provided. When my daughter and I arrived at class, it was the most relaxing and welcoming atmosphere! The host, Crystal, was incredibly friendly and patient with each and every one of us. She gave us our tools, and we got to work; she didn’t rush us but guided us while staying attuned to each of our levels.

That first class was amazing! My daughter and I even learned how to crochet a row and continue that row. This was huge for both of us, and it was so exciting to leave the class knowing how to crochet a bit (at a beginner’s level, of course). Throughout the next four weeks, the entire class continued to improve. I took my yarn with me everywhere and worked on whatever I was crocheting at the time. It’s such a relaxing activity, and both my daughter and I have enjoyed this experience. I won’t say that I’m a master crocheter, but I’ve come a long way since I first stepped into class.

The owner of Crochet Me This is actually a fellow Lafayette mom, Crystal. She is such a sweet soul and truly enjoys sharing and teaching the craft she is an expert in. She offers crochet classes quite often, so if you’re looking to learn, please follow her page and sign up.

Crocheting is the hobby I never knew I needed, but I’m so happy that I’ve found it.
