Must-Have Newborn Baby Needs, Wants, and Lagniappe

What are your must-have newborn baby items?

That is the question I get most often, and I see asked all the time in the mama groups on Facebook.

As I started working on this list, I realized that this list of newborn baby items is one of several lists. This one only encompasses the things I would need if I were bringing home a new baby and would get me through a couple of months. This list does not include feeding (breast, bottle, solids), mama needs, mobile baby needs, toddler needs, etc. I also did not include car seat information and stroller information. We used UppaBaby car seats and strollers for our babes. But if I were to do it again, I would likely use Nuna, as we have loved their convertible seats. Maybe this will make up a series of blog posts?

I have three categories of newborn baby items — needs, wants, and lagniappe. Needs:: the things I cannot live without, wants:: the most fun stuff if you have a little extra cash or if you want to spoil a friend, and lagniappe:: for being EXTRA.

The items listed are my favorites and the ones we actually used and would use again. I may have found out about some of these brands through Lafayette Mom, but I am in no way sponsored to have my opinions about these items.

If you are having a baby, thinking about having another baby or going to a baby shower, THIS IS THE BLOG POST FOR YOU.

Rebecca Autin
Rebecca is an attorney by day and a toddler wrangler by night. She is a product of divorced parents and grew up in both Thibodaux and Franklin, Louisiana. Rebecca attended Loyola University of New Orleans and Southern University Law Center. Rebecca married her high school bestie in 2012. Quinton and Rebecca went through months of infertility before giving birth to Maxwell Lincoln in 2015. In 2016, they were surprised by a baby boy due in June 2017. But, in February 2017, they suffered with incompetent cervix and delivered sweet Theodore Paul too soon. In October 2018, after an incredibly difficult pregnancy, a cerclage, and a whole bunch of bedrest, Fitzgerald Joseph was born -- a happy, healthy, and perfect rainbow. If you can't find Rebecca, you can summon her with pot of freshly brewed coffee or look for her in Target or behind the kitchen island where she is hiding from her kids with a very generous pour of red.
