Our First Farewell To Daycare

Our First Farewell To Daycare

For 4.5 years, I have walked in the same door every weekday. I have seen the inside of each classroom. Her teachers have witnessed each of my child’s milestones alongside me. They have watched me become not only a new parent, but a parent of three.

Why I love daycare

This is where my oldest daughter made her first friends. These are the teachers who joined forces with me through grueling potty training for a very stubborn girl. This is the place where my daughter discovered her love for learning. These are the classrooms she laughed in, cried in, played in, learned in, and helped to build her into the child she is today.

Our First Farewell To Daycare

These teachers are the first women my daughter interacted with. These are the women, other than me, who had the most influence over here. These are her first role models.

It’s true that time flies as your kids grow. I would never want to slow it down, though. Each day that my daughter grows, she shows me a new part of her budding personality. Every hour that passes her brain learns more about the world. Each year I look back in awe of how much she’s grown in love, curiosity, and kindness. I would not trade it for the world.

As we close this chapter of her education and open the door to the next, there are a lot of emotions.

I’m excited about a bigger pond. My girl has a BIG personality and an appetite for learning. While being the big kid on daycare campus is a comfortable place for her, I’m looking forward to how she will embrace a new environment and all it has to offer.

I’m excited about the unique opportunity for French Immersion! For a girl who loves to learn and has a puzzle-solving mind and a gift for language, we’re so fortunate to have this opportunity for her.

I’m excited about the diversity that will surround her. We’ve been privileged to be able to afford such a great daycare option and have loved the families we have met along the way. I’m excited to open more doors to community members who look different than us, have different experiences, different households, and different interests. I’m also excited for my daughter to continue to discover and share more about herself with a new group. She will always have a special place in her heart for her first friends, and a new place in her heart for new friends.

So to our daycare, I thank you.

I thank you for your patience, your love, your support, your grit, and your active part in my child’s life. While I do have two more children who will still walk through the doors each day, the first book of our trilogy has ended. Onto the next one!
