Grace :: What Your Child’s Teacher Really Needs

Grace :: What Your Child’s Teacher Really Needs

I don’t know how it happened, but the end of summer snuck up on us! School supplies sales are happening, uniforms have been purchased, we’re packing up backpacks, and about to send everyone back to school.

As I look at my calendar, and the marathon of events we have during the first week of school, I’ve reflected a lot on my hopes for my children this school year, as well as my hopes for their teachers. And while that list is long, I’ve paused multiple times and thought about what their teacher might need from me.

As I reflect, one word keeps coming up: grace.

Give your child grace this school year.

Our teachers need grace! When they send an email and it feels pointed or the tone seems rude, give them grace. When they add one more item to the school supplies list, give them grace. When they have to talk in front of all of their students’ parents at a meet and greet or back to school night and they seem awkward or unprepared, give them grace.

The first week of school is a marathon for parents, students, and teachers. They have done all that they can to prepare to welcome their children. So before we roll our eyes, huff, or say or think something sarcastic or rude about them, let’s remember all of their hard work and give them some grace!
