Lafayette Be the Change Spotlight :: The Family Tree

This month for our “Be the Change Spotlight,” we’d like to introduce you to The Family Tree Information, Education and Counseling Center, an organization whose mission is to improve the quality of life for individuals and families over the course of their lives through education, counseling and information services that are delivered in a professional, accessible, and compassionate manner.

The History of The Family Tree ::

The seed of The Family Tree was planted in 1979 for a nonprofit agency designed to help parents create stronger families. The Junior League of Lafayette initiated research and funding to begin the agency with a goal of strengthening families in order to build a stronger community. Since 1979, they have continued to be a core service and source of hope and guidance to parents, individuals and families across Acadiana. As a community-based agency, they provide professional, yet affordable or no-cost services to the Acadiana region. Their programs support parents and individuals through various stages of their lives that result in better mental health, coping skills, stronger family systems and support.

What The Family Tree Does ::

The Family Tree operates a center designed to enhance the quality of life for individuals and families over the course of their lives through education, counseling, and information services. Our programs support parents and individuals through various stages of their lives that result in better mental health, coping skills, and stronger family systems. One of the many programs they offer is a free Community Education program. As a primary prevention service, the Community Education program utilizes professional facilitators and mental health professionals to teach, support and empower individuals and families in both a classroom and small group setting. They are currently hosting two monthly virtual Community Education programs covering a variety of topics ranging from maintaining a relationship during a pandemic to parenting in the digital age. For more information and to sign up for these free monthly Community Education programs, click HERE.

How Can You Support The Family Tree ::

One of the best ways to support The Family Tree is to donate HERE. COVID-19 has added a shift of fears, worries, and hardships to many during this time. Counseling services are always important but are vital during a pandemic. It costs $100 to provide 1 counseling session for 1 person in Acadiana. With your help, The Family Tree can continue to support individuals and families across Acadiana through education, counseling and information services that are delivered in a professional, accessible, and compassionate manner.
