From Nola to Stella :: Our Goldendoodle Journey
New Found Friend
It was roughly three years ago I stumbled across the cutest pup ever. Beautiful, fluffy, curly-haired with the purest brown fur and a bow to finish the look. I told my husband we needed one like that (lol). Our home had been filled with pets, but it had been about a year or so since we had lost our beloved dachshund. Enough time had passed and we felt ready to welcome a new puppy into our home.
After much research and learning all we could about a Goldendoodles, we found a breeder who was very helpful throughout the entire process. I honestly had never heard of this type of dog, but fell in love with just about each one I came across during research. Although they come in different sizes, we decided on a Mini Goldendoodle for our family.
Pick Up Day
We traveled to New Orleans to pick up our Nola girl. Naming her was easy; not only is it one of our favorite cities to visit, but it’s also where we got her from. Our little one had no idea what was about to happen. Once we arrived and met with the sweetest lady who had been taking wonderful care of our Nola, she handed us our sweet girl, and we immediately fell in love all over again.
We walked around the car to the back door where our daughter was sitting. At this point, she still had no idea what was going on until the moment we placed Nola in her lap. The look on her face, priceless! The only words she uttered were “Can we keep her!” When we finally got her home, no one wanted to put her down. Our surprise worked! It was like playing pass the pup as each of our kids took turns spoiling her. They were all ecstatic, and that made for a wonderful family gift!
Get Two They Say
Fast forward to today’s life with our Goldendoodles-yes plural. When Nola was about 2 years old, we figured she needed a playmate, a sibling, a bestie to run around and play with. As if she didn’t tackle any and everything she knew she couldn’t have the second our backs were turned. Lol. Even still, it happened again-oops. We welcomed our Stella girl into our family. Nola finally had a playmate and a sister. They were a double team, sometimes a double tag team, but we wouldn’t trade them in for the world. They are the cutest pups ever, despite their love for ripping up toilet paper, paper towels, and their toys for the stuffing-basically everything they can’t have. They are also the fastest when it’s time to run and let out some energy.
Calm Now & Life Is Golden
When Stella first arrived, it was a little different. Nola seemed to be asking us why would we bring another pup in our home. She’d run from Stella and hide, confused by this new intruder invading her space and people. That all lasted about three weeks. Then Nola started to warm up to Stella, and now you can’t peel them apart. When one goes to the groomer or doctor, the other walks around the house like, “Where is my sister?
It all came together, and now even our extended family knows their personalities, ways and what to expect from each of them. My sister and brother both have Goldendoodles too, and it’s one big shenanigan show when they all come together. Milo, who is actually Nola’s brother in real life, is a mini, and Oliver is a standard. Yes, exactly what you are imaging happening has probably already happened with these four. They are funny, lovable, cuddly, cute and oh, did I mention spoiled rotten?
If you were ever thinking about adding one of these lovable guys to your family, I would, of course, say yes in a heartbeat!
