We Tried Things at Aldi So You Don’t Have To: Part 1

By now you may have already shopped at the new grocery store in Lafayette, right? If not, I urge you to check it out at least once. For me, because I lived in Canada for 6 years before moving to Lafayette I already knew the awesomeness that is Aldi.

Like Trader Joe’s, Costco, and Sam’s Club they always have new things for us to try. So, instead of wasting your money on every new thing, I’ll do it for you! Ha! If I really like something I’ll even give you a recipe.

Perogies

The first time I had perogies was in the 2nd grade. We had a cultural food day and each of us brought a dish in for every one in the class to try. My friend, whose family is Polish, brought in Perogies and it’s been a food I’ve loved ever since. But I love potatoes in every shape and form anyway.

10/10 would buy these again!

Turkey Kielbasa

I’ve been a big fan of Kielbasa since I was a kid. My family has no Polish or German heritage but my Dad would fix kielbasa and sauerkraut on a regular basis for dinner. I like to fix something similar every once in a while for nostalgia and because it tastes good. Traditional Kielbasa is high in fat and usually made with pork or a combination of both pork and beef. This Turkey Kielbasa is a great alternative that has half the fat.

10/10 would buy this brand again

Perogies with Kielbasa

The two together are just delicious and a super quick dinner. Brown the sausage, saute the onions, add the perogies, add a tiny bit of water, put a lid on it for about 7 minutes, and enjoy. I like to have a little bit of mustard on the side for dipping.

Spinach and Cheese Manicotti

Pasta is such a comfort food. Unfortunately, for me, this was a disappointment. The pasta was chewy and the filling was flavorless and almost gritty.

3/10 because it’s not the worst thing I’ve eaten

This sauce is the only thing that saved this dish. It’s a basic pasta sauce and would be a great start to delicious spaghetti.

10/10

Charcuterie Board

This one isn’t new to me. I’ve bought a few of these at other grocery stores for way more money. This rang up at $9.99 and was the perfect “oversized lunchable” for waiting for the parades!

Absolutely a 10/10

Happy shopping! Just don’t forget your quarter for the shopping cart and reusable bags!
