Gimme the Juice :: My Experience with a Three-Day Clean Juice Cleanse
I’ve struggled with my weight since the ripe old age of eight. Trial and error, as well as every diet known to man have led me to one major conclusion :: diets don’t work; lifestyle changes, however, DO. Consistently feeding your body healthy things, plus a little exercise thrown in for good measure? THAT recipe works. And while I may not be a fitness model, I do feel confident in my own skin, and I strive to FEEL as healthy as possible. Being adopted means that I am unsure of my family history, and with heart disease and diabetes being the number one killers in the south, I don’t need to give diseases any extra ammunition.
But let’s face it; we all slip up. I try to make healthy choices, yes, but I’ve never met a cookie I didn’t like. If given a choice between carbs and, well, anything else? Give me all the breads. All of them. And pizza? Don’t get me started. Some months are certainly harder than others, and after the birthday-and-holiday-palooza that is April and May in our house, I needed something to get the buttercream icing out of my system!
So I turned to my friends at our local Clean Juice to get myself back on track in the feeling good department. I’d completed a one-day cleanse when Clean Juice first opened, so I felt confident heading in, but this time I was going to take it to the next level with a three-day cleanse.
A Three Day Cleanse?!
Three days of no chewing? Y’all. I was a little nervous simply because I like chewing, and the thought of three days without solid food was indeed a little intimidating. However, I am not one to shy away from a challenge, so I decided … what the heck?! You got this, girl! And I went for it. Even the inspirational quote on the six-pack box of juices had my back!
SPECIAL NOTE :: I want to get one thing straight; there is SO MUCH MORE to a juice cleanse than weight loss. I chose to cleanse because I wanted to FEEL better. We’re not getting any younger, mamas! So, any weight lost was just going to be an added bonus. A juice cleanse was the jump start I needed to recommit to my mostly-healthy lifestyle.
So what do the juices taste like?
The six juices that are part of the cleanse are all good; I do enjoy some of the juices more than others, but they all have fantastic benefits that make them well worth it. Sweet Green and Orange are pretty freaking delicious. Green is a little harder to swallow (literally, har har) because to me, it tastes like drinking a salad. Frankly, I do prefer to chew my greens, but I drink the green juice ice cold (pro tip: stick it in the freezer for a bit before you drink) with a straw. Yellow has a refreshing lemonade flavor with a cayenne kick, and Red … well, if you like beets, you’ll love it. If you don’t like beets, try the freezer + straw trick! After all that, you get to experience White, which is my absolute favorite. You can even swap it out for Gold, which I actually like even more! The turmeric is great to help cut down on inflammation.
How did the juice cleanse make me feel?
After three days, I felt absolutely fantastic. I wasn’t hungry through the three days, but I did miss chewing. I lost almost six pounds during this time period and started day four feeling healthy and ready to make better food choices, which is major for me. Instead of wanting to dive mouth-first into a cheeseburger, I craved eggs and salad! I went from eating cake for breakfast (yes, really) to being delighted over my scrambled eggs. I personally did not have any “bathroom issues” during the cleanse, but that might not be the case with everyone! I also had more energy and desire to get to the gym to continue the healthy high. The three-day cleanse helped me to get off the unhealthy eating train, and for that, I’m so grateful.
Another thing I love about our Clean Juice? The service!
The Clean Juice staff is so friendly! I walked in with my daughter, and the gentleman behind the counter said “Hey! I haven’t seen y’all in a while!” The employees make you feel welcome and answer all of your questions, even the silly ones from my five-year-old. My daughter also loves the White juice and the Cacao Milk, and I would be doing you all a disservice if I failed to mention the Cashew Milk Latte. Y’ALL.
Clean Juice also offers a menu including acai bowls, smoothies, and every millennial’s favorite :: avocado toast. Plus some cute punny apparel (think “oh KALE no”), quick-grab options, a community board and even a prayer jar.
What’s a juice cleanse gonna cost me?
One question I’ve gotten a lot is about the price … and no, a juice cleanse is not exactly cheap. It’ll run you about $150 for the three-day cleanse. However, think about the health benefits. Can you really put a price on that? I think not!
Picking up your juice is super easy; just call ahead and let Clean Juice know you’re planning to pick up a three-day cleanse, and they’ll make sure to get it ready for you, nice and fresh. I did have to pick up day 1 and then return for days 2 and 3 later, but I didn’t mind because I knew I was getting the freshest, highest-quality juice. Stop by Clean Juice in Lafayette sometime soon. You could also download their app and order that way, and then you can swing by their pick-up window! Worried about trying to make a left onto Ambassador Caffery? There’s a back way that takes you to the light by Old Navy.
Glad you have completed three day juice cleanse without giving up. I would love to try this.Your blog was so helpful as well as clear, concise and organized.
