Can I Read You a Valentine?

For my first born’s first Valentine’s Day, I wanted to mark the occasion in a way we could treasure forever. While scrolling across options online, I came across Amelia Bedelia’s First Valentine. My Amelia got a special book with her name in it, and I wrote a heartfelt note inside.

Who knows what I did for the next few Valentine’s Days. When our second daughter was born, though, I wanted her to have the same experience – a special book with a heartfelt message written by Mom (and dated) that she could treasure forever. On the Night You Were Born felt like the perfect selection for my newborn. And of course, big sister would need an equivalent Valentine. She had been spending a lot of time with her grandparents as we adjusted to having a new baby in the house, so Wherever You Are: My Love Will Find You was the perfect choice.

In 2020, I decided to make this an annual tradition. I caught an Amazon sale and picked up Love from the Very Hungry Caterpillar and I’ve Loved You Since Forever.

This year, I tapped into current favorites for Valentine’s inspiration: I Love You, Little Pookie, and Love From the Crayons.

Our girls get inundated with candy and Valentine’s themed goodies at school. And of course, their grandparents also shower them with love and material goods. We have found joy in keeping it simple. And we are building a collection of special and beautiful books to read together. My girls love for me to read the special notes I have written to them. And the best part is that we can take that Valentine’s love and make it year-round by cuddling up and reading one of their Valentines.
