A Local Hidden Gem :: BluesBerry Fields

School is out and I’m always looking for things to do around Lafayette! A variety of activities keeps our days fresh and exciting. That’s when I found out about BluesBerry Fields located in Carencro, LA!

Open Wednesdays and Sundays in June, from 5pm-7:30pm, head over to the you-pick farm for a fun family experience! All supplies are included. Pick up a bucket and head over to the bushes to start picking. Their website informed me that it’s best to search for a cluster of blue/gray plump berries and gently rub them. Ripe berries will fall off while those not quite ready will remain on the stem. This process was super easy and we were able to collect quickly! My child opted to pick them one by one.

Once you are done collecting, bring your bucket to the front table again. Transfer them to a ziploc bag, weigh them and pay either via cash or venmo! Currently the cost is $5/pound of blueberries picked.

Tips for Storing ::

Berries will be good in the fridge for 7-10 days.

If you’d like to freeze them, first freeze them in a single layer on a cookie sheet. Once frozen, you can transfer them to one ziploc bag or container. However, if you try to freeze the whole ziploc bag straight from the you-pick farm, they will freeze as a clump and will be more challenging to use in smaller portions later if desired.

Be sure to check their social media for dates and hours open!
