Continued Learning :: An Alternative Date Night Option

Dinner out. Movies. Dinner out. Museum. Dinner out. Escape room. Dinner out. Wine Bar. And around and around and around … Date night so easily becomes rote and boring. It’s hard enough to schedule the time to spend together, but deciding what to do can be even harder. Acadiana is lucky enough to have tons of wonderful experiences with the addition of places like Rock ‘N’ Bowl, traditional Korean Barbeque (Hana Grill), and the old faithful, Girard Park. However, I’d like to challenge you to think outside the box, schedule regular date nights, and experience something new together – creating memories you can look back on through the years.

I’d like to suggest :: Continued Learning.

UL offers a myriad of choices for continued education classes! Everything from Tae Kwon Do to dance classes to classes in photography, art, finance, and more! The choices are so vast and interesting varying from “Painting the Bob Ross Way” to “How to Write, Illustrate, Self-Publish and Market Your Own Book” to “Retirement – It’s about Time!” There seems to be something for everyone. They even offer ‘Daycation – Fun Day of Education’ options if the cost of a weekly sitter for 2-3 hours is too much investment for this season of your life.

If you can swing the cost of weekly sitters, I would highly recommend one semester of guaranteed date nights. My husband and I took Tae Kwon Do classes every Thursday and enjoyed it so much we took a second semester. My husband even continued for an additional semester after that. Since that was something he really enjoyed, we decided that this time around it would be something that really speaks to me for our weekly date nights. At the moment, I’m wavering between Guitar for Beginners and Cajun Dance for Beginners. I love that outside of the sitter, which in our case was Paw Paw who loved the idea of spending one night a week with the grandkids, it’s all paid up front so there’s no excuse not to go if an unexpected expense comes up along the way. The cost per class is honestly less than we would spend on a traditional date night in most cases, too.

Relationships are work, and while many of us are eager to work on our fitness and career goals, we often leave our intimate relationship to weather the storm of life without care and attention. Date nights are an opportunity to communicate, can rekindle the romantic spark, and are a wonderful way to relieve stress. For parents, we need to prioritize time together even more so we can have time together as partners and not just parents.

You can request a catalog of classes here.

Which ones are you thinking of trying with your partner?
