My husband likes Miley Cyrus’ new smash hit “Flowers” but not for the reasons you might think. The music video to the song is risqué (usual Miley) and we see a lot of skin … working out in itty bitty lingerie and bare boob shots in a tuxedo top … just to name a few. When my husband said he liked the song, I looked at him sideways. I thought: do you like the song or the video? Turns out, he likes both.
In case you have not heard, “Flowers” is Miley Cyrus’ break up anthem to Liam Hemsworth (Thor’s younger brother). It is her “biggest career streaming debut ever” according to ABC Audio. After being released for only one week, “Flowers” had 83 million plays. Spotify announced that: “Flowers became the most-streamed song in a single week in Spotify history.”

Back to my husband. He said he likes “Flowers” (the song) for its creative genius. The song is a cross reference to Bruno Mars’ “When I Was Your Man,” a song fans claim Liam dedicated to Miley at one point during their tumultuous ten year relationship. Some fans can even hear a similar melody to “I Will Survive” by Gloria Gaynor. Interloping two songs and turning them into your own anthem takes some talent and my husband, always a music fan, appreciates this aspect of the song. My husband likes the video for the Easter eggs hidden throughout Miley’s prancing, swimming, and showering. Apparently, the house Miley romps through is the same house owned by Liam and Miley at one point in their marriage. Rumors claim Liam cheated on Miley with 14 different women in this particular house. In the beginning of the video, Miley is seen parading down the street in a golden ensemble. Is it coincidence that Liam cheated on Miley with his co-star Jennifer Lawrence on the set of “Hunger Games” … AND … fans pieced together the “evidence” and have posted pictures of Jennifer Lawrence when she wore a similar gold outfit at the premiere for “Hunger Games?” And the side boob tuxedo? Rumor has it that this is the same tuxedo Liam wore to the “Avengers” premiere. In a clip at the premiere, we see Miley pretend to lick Liam. Lip readers have pointed out that Liam is saying to Miley: “can you behave for once?”
Even if these rumors are debunked, my husband and I both can appreciate the talent it takes to marry two songs into one as well as create a video with hidden meaning. It’s kind of like a secret message. What else will we uncover?
