Bringing the Magic Home :: Disney Jr. Live and Disney on Ice

My husband and I recently wanted to bring our daughters to do something fun as a family. Daily life was wearing on us, and we wanted to experience something with our children that was purely for joy and fun.

While trying to research something out of the box to take the girls to, we found out that Disney Jr. Live: Let’s Play was coming to Lafayette at the Heymann Center! Even though the show was on a school night, dangerously close to the baby’s bedtime, and right smack dab in the middle of a hectic week, we bought tickets for all four of us anyway for the sake of FUN.

In the end, the show totally surpassed our expectations of “fun.” Instead, the phrase I would use to describe the show would be absolutely magical.

Bringing the Magic Home :: Disney Jr. Live and Disney on Ice

Our daughters are nearly 2 and 5 years old, so they were in the perfect age range for the Disney Jr. Live show! My husband went all out and bought them light-up ears and stuffies from the gift shop to remember this special family outing. EVERY moment of the show, down to the songs, dialogue, dancing, and seeing their favorite onscreen characters come to life was absolutely magical for our girls.

A true core memory for me was when our 2-year-old daughter saw Mickey Mouse enter the stage for the first time. Her eyes lit up when she saw him and excitedly pointed at him saying “Mickey”!! She even joined in singing his theme song, M-I-C-K-E-Y-M-O-U-S-E, which I had no idea she knew that song or much less could spell it. This was the moment I realized what people mean when they say, “Disney World is the most magical place on Earth!”

We haven’t taken the girls to Disney World yet, but sharing with them a little bit of the magic of Disney right in our city, just a few miles away from our house, with only the minor inconvenience of pushing back bedtime by an hour, was so special for our family! My husband and I both shed a few tears that night watching our girls experience such magical moments. Until we can make it to the actual Disney World, attending these short live shows is a wonderful way to experience the magic of Disney without having to travel far from home!
