Five Reasons Apple Watch Should Have Mom Mode

If you have an Apple Watch, you are acquainted with the activity circles that track standing, exercise and calorie burn. I’m a competitive sort, so I get a bit aggravated when I can’t meet the calorie and exercise goal even though I spend my days and nights constantly doing.

With the wonderful advanced technology Apple has included in their products and the geek gods they house in their headquarters, why haven’t they created Mom Mode yet?! I don’t know about you, but my Mom Mode would look a bit like this:

House and Yard Work

I would love to have all the calories I burn picking up, wiping pee off of toilet seats, folding clothes, vacuuming, mopping floors and cleaning the kitchen while carrying around an infant count toward my daily goal. And I would love for it to count the time spent cutting grass, sweeping the porch and patio and working in my flowerbeds too!

Breastfeeding / Pumping

Breastfeeding and pumping can burn serious calories. Your body burns 20 calories per ounce of breast milk produced. If your body makes 20 to 30 ounces of milk a day, that’s 400 – 600 calories a day just from feeding your baby. How nice would that be?!

Rocking babies

I know rocking is a “passive” activity, but it definitely works my calves. I rock my babies every night – rocking for at least 30 – 45 minutes. This should count for something!

Chasing Toddlers

Seriously, some days it feels like I’m running a marathon when chasing my toddler around the house, the neighborhood and the grocery store. That’s gotta burn at least 700 calories.

Mental Load

Goodness! This circle would be spinning constantly! I’m exhausted by the time I climb into bed at night, but I somehow still lay awake at night making lists in my head (and sometimes in the notes app on my phone) of what needs to be done tomorrow, this week and next month.

Can you imagine how many times your activity circles would overlap and how many days you would exceed your set daily goals if your watch counted these?! So come on Apple, get Mom Mode built out!
