New Year’s Day :: a Day for Wine and No Resolutions

ResolutionsLooking to spend more quality time with your family?

Thinking you need to take life by the horns and live your life to the fullest?

Ordering your cool planner because you want to be more organized this year?

Man, I could go on with the stereotypical New Year’s resolutions that people will be making this year, but seriously, a specific date is not going to magically change your mindset and make you the best version you can be. It takes hard work to make major and minor changes in life, and although it is possible, it usually doesn’t pan out. In fact, studies have shown that 80 percent of people who make New Year’s resolutions give it up by February.

Hate me yet? I know that this is coming off as being a little tough love-ish and a little too honest, but someone has to say it.

I am not writing this to rant. I am not writing this to discourage. I am writing this to tell every single momma out there that you can be the best you every day of the year, not just January 1st.

We have all fallen victim to the New Year’s resolution idea of changing your life and being the best individual you can be. Our minds have literally been molded to link New Year’s Day as the day we start the journey of fattening our savings accounts and slimming down our mom bods.

We have been brainwashed to think this day is the unicorn of all unicorns and the only day out of the year that we can sprinkle some fairy dust on something that we find negative about ourselves and all will be resolved. Somehow, on this day, we will rise to the top of that pile of laundry that we have been needing to fold for the past week and conquer all.

Well y’all I’m here to tell you a little something. WE CAN RISE TO THE TOP ANY DAY OF THE YEAR, and you probably already do!

As we all start anew and evaluate what we can do better, reminisce over the things that you were great at this past year. Give yourself a pat on the back for all the last-minute projects you have helped complete and the kissed boo-boos that have magically felt better after your loving care. Heck, instead of that pat on the back, how about enjoying a glass of wine? Because you momma have survived another year of being a mom, and we all know that that is one heck of an accomplishment in itself.

Now sit back, relax, and maybe put off thinking about what you can do better until tomorrow and the 363 days after that … because we all know we are trying to do better for ourselves, our families, and especially our children EVERYDAY of the year. Cheers!
