So my story begins four years ago when my husband and I, along with our two daughters, moved from New Orleans to the Lafayette area after my husband accepted a job here. I was very excited for this new journey, but I was terrified because I was leaving my city, my family, and friends to move to a city where I barely knew anyone.
I was committed to making new mom friends, but that task proved to be harder than I ever imagined. I met a few neighbors and wives of my husband’s co-workers, but I never got the “this is the one” feeling. I was beginning to feel outdone and wondering if I would ever find friends in this new city.
Life was tough! I had a baby and a toddler, and I needed an outlet. I needed a friend, someone to talk to, someone to tell me that I wasn’t going to lose my mind and that I could handle this. I was very down and very lonely. I decided to take a chance and enroll my children in a Music Together class to get them out of the house and to offer me some adult socialization.
I really put myself out and tried to talk to the other moms in the class and one day IT HAPPENED!! Two of the moms that I had become friendly with suggested that we get lunch after class. I was beyond excited. We had a great time and our kids got along as well as toddler’s can. We began meeting more outside of class for play dates and meeting at events in the area. These women quickly became good friends. They invited me to join their pokeno group where my small circle of friends quickly grew and I found my mom tribe.
These special ladies quickly became a part of my life and I wound up leaning on them through the most difficult time of my life. They embraced me and supported me through my father’s fight with cancer and were there for me when he passed away. I do not know how I would have gone through this period of my life with out my tribe. We have such a wonderful time together, and because of them, I have learned to love this area and all that it has to offer. I love my tribe, and I will cherish them always.

Its so hard to make mom friends. I’ve met so many ladies, joined groups, and I haven’t seemed to click with any of them. Still praying those special ladies come along!! I’ve never had problems making friends in the past, but for some reason this time in my life when I feel like i need a great friend the most, I can’t find anyone! :0
