A Weekend in New Orleans :: Exploring the City with a Toddler

New Orleans is not only rich in culture but also family-friendly, making it a fantastic destination for a quick family getaway. Our 48-hour adventure offers a peek into the vibrant city, filled with tips for traveling with a toddler.

Our Journey Begins

The drive to New Orleans was serene thanks to a well-timed car nap, a perfect opportunity to catch up on reading or listening to audiobooks. Packing your child’s favorite snacks and toys can also keep them entertained during the trip. What’s your go-to road trip entertainment?

Upon arriving, we checked into The Westin on Canal, indulging a bit for comfort. The hotel was exceptional, with friendly staff, impeccable cleanliness, and a prime location earning it a 9/10 from us. The highlight for Cameron, our three-year-old, was the city view and the endless elevator rides, which he couldn’t get enough of.

Exploring the Charms of New Orleans

We started our exploration at City Park, an expansive oasis that feels new every visit. Storyland, with life-sized nursery rhyme sculptures, was a hit with our toddler. The park also offers the Audubon Zoo, a great way to immerse kids in nature and wildlife.

For dining, we enjoyed Deanie’s Seafood, where the fried seafood platter was a hit. The restaurant’s welcoming atmosphere introduced the family to local flavors without compromising on child-friendly hospitality.
