My husband made a “Monthly Date Night Coupon Book” for me as a Christmas present this past year. He didn’t think much past the booklet, knowing I’m planner of us two, and left each month blank for us to fill in where we were headed on the night the date was planned (by me).
I had always loved the concept of such a gift but was literally drawing blanks of what to do or where to go when January rolled around and it was time to plan the first date. We typically end up on a cliché dinner and a movie date and choose the same restaurant, and even order the same thing to eat every time. I decided that this year, my monthly date night coupon book was going to be filled with new restaurants and experiences around Lafayette instead of the same ole, same ole.
Here are our date nights from January, February, and March:
January: Non Kid Friendly Foodie Night
Samurai Sushi for a “We Survived the Holidays” dinner with friends
Every January a large group of my sorority sisters and their significant others get together at a local restaurant for dinner and a fun(ny) gift exchange. My husband and I had missed the get together previous year so we decided that since we love sushi and had never tried Samurai Sushi in Broussard that we would definitely make this our January month date night.
In my opinion, Sushi restaurants are a great mommy/daddy date night idea because we wouldn’t typically dine at one with our children. You know why. Sushi restaurants don’t serve the major toddler food groups of chicken nuggets, mac and cheese, and crackers! Lafayette has so many great sushi options from casual to fancy, a la carte to all you can eat for a flat fee. Try a new one on your next date night!
February: Splurge and Dress Up Romantic Night
Esprit de Coeur for a Valentine’s Day themed Murder Mystery Dinner
February is easily the month with the most date night options no matter where you live. There are typically a lot of specialized menus, planned events, or unique experiences for date nights around Valentine’s Day. I had heard about the murder mystery dinners at Esprit de Coeur before and snagged tickets for
my Valentine and I for our February date night.
I highly recommend this local experience if you are looking for a “more than average date night”. You can really get into it and go all out if you’d like by dressing according to the theme of the evening. There was a multi course meal, actors who played the different suspects, and a prize for the team who solved the murder. So I’d definitely wear your thinking cap if I were you, solving the murder and catching the murderer requires some late night brainpower! Murder Mystery dinners are held about every other month at Esprit de Coeur. Make the next one a special date night and you won’t regret it.
March: Family Date Night
The Toughest Monster Truck Show with the kids
So sometimes date night ends up being “Family Date Night” because, well, kids. In March, we were still able to do something new and exciting as we took the girls to the Monster Truck show in the Cajundome. Our 3-year-old loves Hotwheels cars and loved seeing the “Big, Fat, Cars!” do tricks. It was a late night, and we didn’t last the whole time, but we still had a great new family experience.
Step outside your comfort zone and do something that your significant other, or maybe even one of your children loves. You may be shocked at how fun the experience is for you as well!
