In this day and age, getting ahead and planning our futures seem to be everyone’s priority. Securing the perfect job, climbing the corporate ladder, making that first million … whether it be starting a business or investing in stocks, etc. Also, being a part of the “it crowd” and the who’s who in the business world is what everyone seems to strive for, but at the end of the day, the most important investment that is worth more than all that is the investment in our children. Investing in our children’s mental, physical, and spiritual well being is the most important investment you as a human being could ever make, especially as a parent.
Our children need to be invested in mentally. They have big emotions, big dreams, big everything, and their mental state of minds in the current realm (and in the long term) depends on how they are shaped and how their little minds are programmed while they are young.
Our children need to be invested in physically. They need big hugs, big kisses, and big cuddles and snuggles. This may be at the most inconvenient time, maybe when you’re on that conference call or you’re deep into doing housework, or whatever it is you are doing. It is vital that you STOP and give that hug, that kiss, or especially, that ear to listen to the most outrageous story you have ever heard. To them, it is a big deal and showing them that it is important to you as well will give them the utmost satisfaction that will end up making what you’re in the middle of seem trivial.
Last but certainly not least, our children need to be invested in spiritually, whatever that may look like for your family. In our family, we teach them about God and his everlasting enduring love and grace. Sharing our faith with them will go a long way in life.
Everything we are all doing on a daily basis is important to living and succeeding in this life; however, if you have gained the whole world but have a child with a broken spirit, you have gained nothing but material things. A loved and well rounded child is a gift to yourself. Enjoy your children, the gift God gave you, and know that when it’s all said and done, your reward is so much greater than anything else.
