May I Interrupt Your School Day For a Hug?

Do you ever just want to run to school real quick to tell your kids that you love them?

Today I had this sudden urge to drop everything that I’m doing, run down to my kids’ school just to tellschool day them that I love them. I know I can’t just go knock on their teachers’ doors saying, “Excuse me, I have a message I need to deliver … ” Sure, the school allows me to go have lunch with my kids, but right now it’s only 9 a.m. I’m pretty sure they are each sitting nicely in their seats receiving loads of knowledge that will make them already more brilliant than they already are.

So, if I were to do that, go charging into the school, flinging their teachers’ doors open, lifting them out of their seats, and squeezing them in the biggest hug, here’s what I would say to each of them:

My dearest child,

I love you.

I am so, so proud of you.

I cannot stop thinking about you and so desperately want to whisk you away on a grand adventure.

I want you to know that I think the world of you.

I want the very, most absolute best for you

And then some.

You, my dear, will one day change the world

With your contagious smile,

With your willingness to share,

With your encouraging words,

Fierce determination,

And your ability to love everyone no matter what.

And even when you think that nobody sees you

That nobody hears you,

That you are alone,

Always know that

I see you.

I hear you.

And that grade, that misstep, that failure?I am and will always be here for you.

It’s ok.

It’ll all be ok.

You’ll learn.

You’ll grow.

And it isn’t as bad as it seems.

I promise.

One day

Your stubbornness will be seen as tenacity;

Your quirkiness will be seen as creativity;

Your awkwardness will be seen as uniqueness;

Your boisterousness will be seen as enthusiasm;

Your argumentativeness will be seen as passion;

Because when you grow up,

We call these strengths.

I pray for you.

God knows, I pray for you.

I pray for you to have a good day.

I pray that someone shows you kindness today.

I pray that you make wise choices,

Help someone in need,

And see the good in everything.

I pray that you find strength and comfort throughout your day.

I pray that you find peace and joy throughout your day.

I pray that you feel loved,

So deeply loved,

Forever and always.

Love,

Mom

P.S. You forgot your signed paper at home, so I’ll be at school in 10 minutes.
