Top Golf :: A Fun Date Experience

Top Golf :: A Fun Date Experience

As a parent of 3 small children, dates are hard to come by. Recently, a fellow Lafayette mom watched our kids so my husband and I could go on a day date! Eager to try one of the many new establishments in Lafayette, we decided on Top Golf as it has both entertainment and food!

Top Golf :: A Fun Date ExperienceSince we planned this in advance, I made sure to reserve a bay online. Reservations can be made 7 days in advance, regardless of time. So a week before our date, when I woke up at 5am, I made our 10am bay reservations (meaning you don’t have to wait until the exact hour to book your bay!). It’s important to note that if you would like to have a bay on the second floor, you must request this in the note section during reservations. Otherwise, you will be playing on the still great first floor. Bay reservations are made for 2 hours at a time. If you make a reservation, you will have to put a 25% deposit down on the bay.

Pro Tip :: Costco currently sells a Top Golf gift card, a $100 value for $80.

Top Golf opens at 10 am, which is the time we made our reservations for. Not wanting to miss any of our reservation, we arrive a few minutes early. While we were waiting, I received a confirmation text asking me to reply to the message if I was here. After answering yes, I received another text with my bay number! Once Top Golf opened, we were able to bypass the front desk and head straight to the bay to begin playing golf!

Top Golf :: A Fun Date ExperienceHere is where I will disclaim that I actually have never played golf. But the bay had everything we needed. Our names were already listed in the player lineups. There was a rack with men’s and women’s golf clubs of all sizes, ranging from driver, wedge, iron or hybrid club. You can bring your own in you want or use those Top Golf provides. Each bay also has a turf patch and a dispensing machine. Gently wave your golf club over the motion sensor to dispense one golf ball at a time.

Top Golf is also suitable for all weather. The weekend we went happened to have lower temperatures. However, each bay has a heater above the hitting bay as well as a heater over the table for the spectators. This helped ward off some of the heat. However, I’d still encourage bringing your own jacket just in case you find you need it!

The Game ::

We tried a few different options. We started with the signature game. Each player gets 20 golf balls and aims to collect points by hitting the target. The farther the distance or the more accurate the shot (center versus perimeter of the target) gets your more points. As a novice myself, with little hand eye coordination, this was the most enjoyable for me in terms of collecting point. I missed the ball a few times, but eventually was able to nearly reached the third target, hitting the ball over 50 yards away! However, my husband liked a bit more of a challenge and enjoyed some of the other games, including the long shot games, or hitting targets at consecutive distances. If you are looking for a game that switches out players more Angry Birds has each player hitting three golf balls in a row with the virtual game playing out on the TV screens in your bay. This is also a great game for younger kids who may be playing.

After taking your shot, you can review your stats such as distance, speed, top height achieved, etc. on the bay screens. There is also a leaderboard to keep up with scores.

The Food ::

While we were playing, we ordered some food! There is a bay attendant assigned to each bay. The menu has both breakfast and lunch/dinner options. Alcoholic beverages are served at all times of the day. We ordered chips and guacamole, the margherita flatbread and chicken tacos. Being vegetarian personally, I appreciated the vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free markings on the menu. There is also a kid’s menu if you’re going with the whole family. If you’d like to check out their menu before going, you can do so online. It was great to sit back and relax with food while the other person played.

Other important things to note ::

  • While we went to Top Golf for a date, there were several families there with children as young as about 5. Even the young players were able to participate in the games. Angry birds did a great job at making even the youngest players feel like they were making game shaking plays with their shots.Top Golf :: A Fun Date Experience
  • You can have 6 players playing at a time, while 8 people can gather at the bay table. If you have additional people in your party, there is both indoor and outdoor seating available for additional spectators.
  • They do offer event rental space which can be customized for more players. This is a perfect option for birthday parties, bachelor(ette) parties or other team building events you may have in the future.
  • Tuesdays are half off bays day! If you can swing a Tuesday day or night date, this will be the best bang for your buck to book! There is also currently a limited time promotion Monday-Wednesday when booking through the app. Be sure to check the promotions page for current offerings.

We had so much fun on our date at Top Golf and will be returning with some of our kids for a family date soon! Have you been to Top Golf yet?
