Ragin’ Cajun Football as a Family of Four

Ragin’ Cajun Football as a Family of Four

Louisiana football is one of my favorite things about Lafayette. I was a regular attendee as a student and recent grad. Eight years post-grad, I am a very different kind of fan, now.

My husband and I are both alumni, and our littles know we are Ragin’ Cajun fans. Our children (almost 3 and 14 mo) are going to have their first game day experience this year. It is time for us to brave a game day with two littles, and we are getting really excited. Heading to the field as a family, here is what I am looking forward to most.

Family Friendly Tailgating

The moments leading up to the game are where some of the best memories are made. At Russo Park, adjacent to the stadium, you will find kid-friendly activities such as face painting, games, character visits, and a great view of the Cajun Walk.

This leads me to my next favorite game day event – the Cajun Walk. About 2.5 hours before the game, the Ragin’ Cajuns players line up on Stadium Drive to greet excited tailgaters and fans before the big game. Kids love high-fiving and greeting the student athletes before they head into the stadium for the big game.

Music Under the Oaks

If you’re tailgating in Louisiana, you’re in for great music. For a 6’oclock kickoff, a local favorite band will take the stage with a setlist that is great for families before heading into the stadium. The stage is just outside Russo Park.

Concessions

I love a good ballpark hot dog or burger on game day. Ragin’ Cajuns concessions offer both great local options as well as your go-to stadium favorites. With items like burgers, hotdogs, popcorn, nachos, and lots of other favorites for under $10, it’s an affordable and convenient dinner and snack options.

Psst: parents, they also have excellent draft beer, wine, and other drink options.

Pre and Post-Game Local Spots

If you want to patron some of the best restaurants before heading to the game, we have a few great family-friendly spots that also have delicious food.

Midcity Smokehouse (my favorite BBQ in town)

Olde Tyme Grocery

Johnson’s Boucaniere (best. boudin. ever.)

Pop’s Poboys

Deano’s Pizza

Final Tips

For a full rundown of what to look forward to on game days this season, you can visit the Ragin’ Cajuns website. Here you will find info about parking, what kind of bags are allowed in the stadium, and other game day updates.

So grab your kids and your red, and we’ll see you at the game!
