The $20 Amazon Find That Changed My Life

For the past two years, I have struggled with completing simple daily tasks. Some of my struggles are related to timeliness and/or procrastination. Some of the other issues I have encountered were related to a lack of desire to do the mundane, regular stuff. I did some research and self-reflection and studying to figure out solutions. I like to figure out the root of an issue and then work towards a solution. I am a curious person (my poor teachers and adults in my life).

The Issue

I knew some of these issues with myself – I can be and often I am a procrastinator. Actually, through research, I learned most people are. If you are like me, my issues were highlighted and on full display during the pandemic. Deadlines were extended, and for me, that made things worst. Life slowed down to a full-on stop. For the first time in my adult life, I had time to catch up. Although I had a ton of time, I felt lazy and stuck. I needed to pull myself out of the mud. I finally found something that worked.

The Solution

The product that worked for me is a rotating productivity timer/clock. This is a digital/manual preset timer. Kinda. You manually turn the device to the desired time to complete the task at hand, and voila! You are instantly more productive. The first day I received this, it worked like a charm. I started a clean-up challenge in February. There was a daily task sent to my email inbox every day. One task was to throw out 15 items from your house in 15 minutes. The email said, “Don’t overthink it.” Well, I failed. After a week, I had two items in the bag. Y’all, I had enough. I flipped the timer to 15 minutes and after it went off, I had seven things in the bag. Whew. I re-started the timer for another 15 minutes, and I had 10 more items in my bag.

The Results

It works to get my daughter up and moving for school. I wake her up and give her 5-10 minutes to “rest” before she gets up. While she snoozes, I get her lunch ready. I fix her lunch, make sure her clothes are out and ready to go, and fill up her water and milk cups. The timer works for both of us. She hears the timer going off and calls me back into her room to help her get ready for the day. Our mornings are much smoother with our timer helping us. There is less yelling, fewer tears, and my heart rate isn’t so high every morning. She is on time more than she isn’t.

Progress, not perfection. Giving myself grace while setting an example was almost non-existent before my little timer. That’s it. That’s the goodness I am sharing with y’all today.

I really like this one too. I’ll buy it for her to use soon so I don’t have to move mine around the house as much.

What tips or tricks do you have to get through the mundane stuff? Help a sister out.
