There are constant blog posts and articles about finding your tribe. And try as I might, joining a “tribe” never felt accurate.
It didn’t feel right. It didn’t feel authentically Louisiana.
Then I joined a Mardi Gras Krewe – The Krewe de Canailles. There were costumes, eco friendly throws, cocktails and dear friends – 4 of my very favorite things! And, as I strolled through downtown Lafayette throwing treasures that matched the folklore that we were representing and basking in Mardi Gras glory, it came to me.
I don’t need a tribe, I need a Krewe!
All over Louisiana, women are tuning into what I felt that night.
I need a Krewe!
I want to hang with women who enjoy a night of glittering cups and shining bright.
I need to be with women who are not afraid to dance around in costume while singing at the top of their lungs.
I long to cultivate passion for our beautiful state and its traditions with women who feel the same.
I want to be with women who love a good wig and will always hold my drink while I adjust my wig.
I crave being with women who laugh way too loud and occasionally snort.
I strive to be counted in the number of those women who will lay down in a white dress in the grass at the end of a long night and immerse themselves in stimulating conversation with no care for the grass and dirt stains.
I must know the women who bring a baggie of powdered sugar and a lighter for show because they are trying to make magic (you really just burn your fingers though and yes, this is a true story).
I aim to be present for the baring of the soul over the best pizza after a night of painting the town red, or in our case, purple, green and gold.
These are my people. They are my Krewe.
Who is in your #MOMKREWE and why are they special?
Shout them out in the comments!!!
SO DAMN PROUD TO BE IN YOUR KREWE!
