Pura Smart Fragrance Diffuser :: Is it Worth the Money?

We all get those redundant social media ads offering products too good to be true. One such ad I see regularly is the Pura Smart Fragrance Diffuser: “Get a FREE diffuser through this link only! Limited devices available and they will sell out fast–get yours while they’re still in stock!” I caved last year and now I own four devices. Is the Pura Smart Fragrance Diffuser worth the money? Here is my opinion …

I used the codes (or sometimes “no codes needed”) to receive a free plug-in diffuser (retail at $44.99). The catch? You have to subscribe to two fragrance pod shipments for 6 months. These “premium, clean fragrances” pods run $13.59 and up. I broke down the cost. If you join the subscription service for 6 months and ordered the cheapest luxury scent at $13.50 x 2, you would end up paying $162. But you get the Pura Smart Fragrance plug-in diffuser at no cost! Even with the free diffuser, I feel this cost is rather expensive. I do love a great-smelling home, though, so that leads to the BIG question :: IS IT WORTH THE MONEY?

You must consider your space before making this investment. I have tall ceilings and an open-concept floor plan. My 4 devices are plugged in at the entryway, 2 in the hallway, and one in my bathroom. I run 3 devices (each device alternating between 2 scents) on the medium setting and may get to enjoy the scents for 2 weeks before the pods run out of fragrance. In these tall, open areas of my house, I have found that I cannot use the lower setting as the scents are barely noticeable. In my bathroom, however, I can run the device on a lower setting since it is a smaller area. The scents in that confined space will last over a month.

My opinion

No, the Pura Smart Fragrance Diffuser is not worth the money. Is it a luxury? Of course! And a very expensive, time-consuming luxury if you have to change out scents every two weeks. If you have a closed floor plan or chose to run your device in very small spaces, the Pura Smart Fragrance Diffuser might be the luxury for you! I have found that my ultrasonic diffusers from Amazon do a better job of carrying scents throughout the house and are more price effective than the Pura plug-in.

If you are thinking of purchasing a Pura Smart Fragrance Diffuser, I’ve included some additional information below.

About the Device

The Pura website states: “Personalize every detail of your home scenting experience right from your phone.” I downloaded the Pura app and can install and control both the device and diffuser-styled, scented pods from my phone. The app allows you to customize the scent level, and set a schedule (including an “away” mode) as well as nightlight options. The app will also let you know if the fragrance is running low.

About the Subscription

The subscription plan allows you to pick 2 fragrances per device. They are shipped each month at the date of your choosing. You can change out your fragrance each month (but may have to pay more or less depending on the price of the particular scent). Pura does have some amazing luxury scents! My favorites are “Aloha Orchid” by Capri Blue, “Driftwood & Chamomile” by Nest, and “Eden No. 1” by Taft. Of course, you do not have to choose a subscription. There is the option to purchase your pods as needed.

If you own a Pura Smart Fragrance Diffuser and enjoy your device, please share your thoughts!

  1. Agreed – not worth the price or the hassle of dealing with their terrible customer service. If you want more expensive headaches in your life, order from them! I personally love introducing new frustrations into my busy life just to cover up the smell of dog farts.

Pura is not worth it, and even if you decide to purchase it – you’re going to have problems.
