Netflix and Maternity Leave Part 1: Ten Series to Binge While Bonding

I remember my maternity leave well. Cluster feeding, diaper changing, and Will and Grace. And more Will and Grace … with The Golden Girls peppered in just for flavor.

Here’s the thing. I love Will and Grace. Love love love. But after a while, you can only watch the same episodes so many times. Just Jack became just boring.

I was so behind the 8 ball.

I didn’t get Netflix. And what I mean by saying I didn’t get Netflix is that I didn’t now how much content was on there! If I knew then what I know now, my maternity leave could have been so much more pleasant. I’ve compiled a list of series and documentaries to entertain you while your little bundle of joy is brand new and hanging with just you.

Pretty Little Liars

7 seasons of mystery and intrigue. Not to mention eye candy of all sorts. This series is my personal pick! I am true crime obsessed, so anything to do with murder is totally my jam. When you start this series, get really comfy on the couch. You will totally fall down the rabbit hole with this one, so it’s perfect for those all nighters when your sweet angel has decided to party like a rock star.

Riverdale

I’m not quite sure where Riverdale is supposed to be, but I am quite sure that my high school experience was nothing like this. Murder, conspiracy, the mob, student council elections – there’s something for everyone! On top of the high school gang, there are some beautiful dads that serve as serious eye candy! I binged this series on Netflix and carried it through to real time TV. This is a BIG favorite with the Lafayette Moms Blog gals, so make sure to check it out!

The Crown

What is it about the Royal Family that piques our interest so much? The gowns? The Crowns? The accents? Recommended by Lafayette Moms Blog contributor Casey this drama follows Queen Elizabeth II’s reign. It is full of intrigue and will draw you right in. And, Jackie O. is weaved into the story in season 2 and I am a sucker for anything Jackie O.!

The Great British Baking Show

This pick is courtesy of contributor Christy. This baking competition show is truly binge worthy! It is full of British humor and things to make your mouth water. Plus, it helps me to add more delicious items to my list of things I want to bake but probably never will.

Bloodline

Suggested by our very own Rebecca – Who doesn’t like a good drama about the family black sheep, am I right? Every episode leaves you satisfied that you’ve gotten some answers but wanting more as new mysteries initiate. Plus, it will make you feel better about how you and yours are getting along with each other. #atleastitaintthatbad

Ozark

Also recommended by Rebecca, this series has it all. Crime, murder, drug cartels, ahhhhhh the kind of stuff that makes you realize that a normal life isn’t that bad. This one definitely keeps you hooked from the very first episode.

Wanted

This Australian series is a favorite of one of our fearless leaders, Anne Elise. Comedy, crime and drama all packed into one sweet little Australian package. Two strangers come together as they intervene on a crime. The series follows their exploits as they run from Australian authorities.

Arrested Development

Bringing a little comedy to the list is a favorite of our events and social media guru Stephanie. This series that has had some starts and stops over the years as it follows the Bluth family. This family will make you feel like your family resembles Leave it to Beaver. It will make you laugh so hard that you’ll pee a little. Because you just had a baby. And that’s what we do.

Imposters

Dark Comedies are my absolute favorite. Rock your little one as you silently laugh hysterically to this suggestions from LAFMB contributor Yvette. This story surrounds con artist, Maddie, who can remind your partner that things could always be worse!

Getting On

Ok, so it’s not on Netflix; you have to stream it on Amazon. But it’s worth it, trust me. If you’ve ever worked with the elderly or taken care of an elderly relative, you’ll appreciate this series. It is hilarious and sweet all at the same time!

Need a few more things to watch? Stay tuned for Part 2 – a list of fascinating documentaries to move you through the sleepless nights with your brand new angel!
