The Nara Smith Phenomenon
It is no secret that Tik Tok is one of my favorite ways to pass time. One of my favorite influencers is Nara Smith. Nara is a 22-year-old South African – German fashion model who is married to fellow model Lucky Smith. Nara and Lucky live in Germany with their toddlers Rumble Honey and Slim Easy. She recently gave birth to Whimsy Lou. Nara and Lucky are both stunningly gorgeous. But her looks are not what makes Nara so interesting.
Nara takes great pride in caring for her family.
She prepares elaborate meals for her husband and toddlers and brings us along for the ride. Her videos usually start off with her saying that someone was craving something, so she decided to make it. Everything she make is completely from scratch. There is one video where she made the cheese and the bread for a grilled cheese sandwich. Most recently, she has made cough drops from scratch because one of the kids woke up with a sore throat. And the most astonishing one was when he made chewing gum from scratch. Chewing gum!
Nara’s videos are pure satire, but they have sparked a lot of debate on social media.
There are men reposting her video saying that she sets the standard of how a woman should care for her man and her family. There are women saying that she is extra and then there are some that see her as a woman caring for her family. I am of the latter. I love watching Nara’s videos and the foodie in me loves to see her recipes and the various ingredients she uses.
While Nara is polarizing, there are some things to be learned from her.
One of the main things I have learned is that the quality of food in Germany far outweighs the quality here in the United States. Some of the ingredients she uses I have never heard of. She makes the foodie in me want to expand my palate even more.
Nara is also a perfect example of how not to care about the opinion of others. While there are tons of TikTok videos of people giving their opinion of her and her husband’s relationship, her kids names, her content, and family in general, Nara give 0 F’s. She continues to post her videos and live her life. She sometimes even comments on the trolling videos. Due to her popularity, she rarely shows her kids faces, which is totally understandable in today’s words. And she makes it known that she is a Mama Bear, so don’t come for her kids!
Her and her husband also show that gender roles are a thing of the past. While Nara does majority of the cooking, Lucky is the baker and grill master of the family. He also washes and styles the kids hair and does a damn good job of it. They both handle routine household chores and appear as a united front. There is even a video of Lucky making facial cream to help soothe Nara’s eczema.
The Nara Smith phenomenon has taken over as there are many parodies of her videos as well as videos just like hers. She has even become a verb. When you are getting your Nara Smith on, you are making a home cooked meal.
