Deuxieme Vie Creative :: Holiday Workshops For Adults And Kids
Deuxieme Vie Creative Reuse Center is located in the heart of Downtown Lafayette on Jefferson Street. All the items in the shop are donated. They are dedicated to reducing waste by recycling and promoting creative ways to reuse old things. The shop is filled with art supplies, knick-knacks of all kids, sewing supplies, upcycled art by local artists, and so much more. Their creative calendar is filled with fun workshops for adults and kids too. 
We first discovered this gem when my daughters and I were volunteering downtown for Parish Proud day. There was a tent set up in front of their shop and my girls made flowers out of recycled materials like old records. Afterward, we went into shop and my oldest daughter was in heaven. She described Deuxieme Vie as if Tinkerbell had a workshop of lost things that she could turn into new treasures. She got a beautiful set of vintage beads for jewelry making. When we left, she proclaimed it her new favorite store.
Fast forward a few months and she kept asking when we could go back. I checked their hours and saw a garland making workshop was happening the next day. It was only $15 so I signed her up. There was a whole table of recycled goods to pick from to make her garland. She was taught how we can help the environment by reusing and recycling at home. A skill that she was taught was how to make pom poms and tassels from yarn. We purchased a big bag of yarn from the shop for only $2 so she can practice her new skill at home.
Check their website for dates of upcoming creative workshops. Adult workshops are for ages 16+ two Wednesdays per month starting at $35. Kids workshops are for ages 8-15 two Sundays per month for $15. This would be a fun Christmas gift if you have a kid who loves crafting or maybe a gift for you and a friend for a fun, unique girls’ night out.
