National Night Out :: Who, What, When & Where
Please won’t you be my neighbor? Where we live is where we should thrive. We deserve the right to enjoy a strong sense of safety and connection within our community. “National Night Out” gives families a chance to do just that. It is a night to meet neighbors, take a stance against crime, and familiarize themselves with first responders who serve the community.
National Night Out started 25 years ago and has grown into larger gatherings, with families showing up for their communities, by coming together as one to show unity, with the simple concept of turning on your porch light and spending the evening outside together.
October 7, 2025
This year, National Night Out is being held on October 7th around Lafayette Parish. Usually celebrated the 1st Tuesday in August, Louisiana chooses to wait until the weather has cooled down to provide a beautiful, breezy evening under the starts with those near and dear to them.
Some activities that are held locally will include ::
• Neighborhood block parties and get together including games and music with entertainment for the family
• Hot Dog and BBQ Cookouts
• Meet and Greet with community helpers including police, fire and emergency medical operators
• Fire safety demonstrations courtesy of the fire department

Join with your neighbors and come together to have a lot of fun, practice safety, and capture moments with local law enforcement while connecting with your community. If you’ve never experienced an event like this one before, I’d recommend getting out to enjoy the chance to keep your community and family safe.

Abbeville is having one as well. You can see the info on the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office Facebook Page. It will be Tuesday night, October 6 at 5pm at A.A. Comeaux Park.
