Middle Grade Books My Kid Devoured
Middle grade books are defined as those suitable for ages 8-12. My daughter has read several of these series in their entirety and would recommend them. She loves books that come in a series, much like her mother. Maybe your kid loves reading and hasn’t discovered these yet or maybe you’re looking for ways to inspire them to read more. Either way maybe one of these books will ignite a passion for reading that can’t be tamed.
Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney
You’ve probably heard of this series as it’s been around a while and was on the NYT best seller list. Greg Heffley navigates the tough waters of middle school in a hilarious diary style of writing. Book #18 was published in 2023 so your kid will have plenty to read with this light hearted series.
Dork Diaries by Rachel Renee Russell
This is another diary style book series about Nikki Maxwell. Including all things middle schoolers deal with like best friends, crushes, and annoying little sisters. 15 books total in this series.
Warriors by Erin Hunter
Warrior cat clans battle each other as prophecies unfold. This series is wildly popular and has so many books to keep your animal loving kid reading. Erin Hunter also has several other series including Bamboo Kingdom about pandas.
Wings of Fire by Tui Sutherland
The perfect fantasy for the dragon loving kid. They will love discovering the different types of dragons and which kind of powers they have. Note: this series does contain some violence.
Nancy Drew Diaries by Carolyn Keene
I grew up reading Nancy Drew so I love seeing my girls enjoy it too. They like to listen to the audiobooks and there are so many to choose from. Join Nancy, Bess, and George and uncover mysteries.
The Vanderbeekers by Karina Yan Glaser
This charming series is about a large family living in Harlem. Follow the Vanderbeeker’s adventure through the 7 book series filled with family, friendship, and community.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan
Join Rick Riordan’s world of gods and monsters. My daughter recently read the first book of the series and said it was better than the movie. Disney+ recently released a tv series rebooting the original movie too. We love reading books and watching them come to life through the screen. My daughter also enjoyed the Magnus Chase series also by Rick Riordan.
Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling
As a millennial parent, I’ve been waiting for the day my kids were old enough to read the Harry Potter series. My girl has read a few books in the series, and we’ve enjoyed speculating which Hogwarts house each of our family members would be sorted into. How beautiful are these illustrated versions of the book? A perfect gift for a book loving kid.
What series can your kid not put down?
