Grinch Dust and Reindeer Food :: Christmas Eve Magic

Grinch Dust and Reindeer Food :: Christmas Eve Magic

I’ve been making reindeer food for as long as I can remember. With younger siblings and long past the years we made it in school, reindeer food became a must do holiday tradition at home. It was something I carried over into our traditions at home and made with our child as early as 2 years old and has left an imprint large enough to be request yearly as a must do Christmas item for her.

This alone satisfied her until Kindergarten and she came home with Grinch Dust.

Never in my life had I heard of Grinch Dust before. As part of their fun holiday activities, her Kindergarten class mixed Grinch Dust and sent home small bags for the kids with the cutest little poem:

Grinch Dust and Reindeer Food :: Christmas Eve Magic

Don’t let the Grinch steal your Christmas!
You must be on your guard.
Before bedtime on Christmas Eve,
Sprinkle this dust in your yard.

The Grinch will see the magic dust
and know you’ve taken great care
to protect your home and family
and keep Christmas joy in the air!

I’ll admit, I thought it was such a cute idea and my kids love The Grinch! Only problem is, she also has 2 younger siblings. Looking to avoid a dreaded fight on Christmas Eve about it being “her Grinch dust” I knew I had to make some more for her siblings. Thankfully it’s super easy to make and we already had all ingredients on hand at home.

Here’s how to make your own Grinch Dust:

Ingredients

Sugar
Green food coloring
Glitter (we used red, green and white which we already used for reindeer food)
Ziploc Bag

Directions

Mix 1 cup of sugar with about 6 drops of green food coloring and mix well. Add in glitter for a little extra flair.

It is so simple; I really couldn’t say no to making more! Here is a link for a printable poem tag if you’d like to make your own Grinch Dust! It’s a quick and fun activity and best of all can be done a few days before Christmas for added anticipation! Make a day out of it by making Reindeer Food as well (or have your elf bring the supplies)!

How to make Reindeer Food

Ingredients

Oats
Christmas Sprinkles
Glitter (we used red, green for Christmas and white for snow effect)
Ziploc Bag

Directions

Mix the above three ingredients together, with oats being the largest portion. Sprinkle in your yard on Christmas Eve. It also comes with a cute poem tag if you need one!

Sprinkle on the lawn at night,
the moon will make it sparkle bright.
As Santa’s reindeer fly and roam,
this will guide them to your home.

Wishing you all a happy holiday season and all the magic of Christmas!
