My Top Three True Crime Podcasts

My Top Three True Crime Podcasts

My love for true crime has remained constant for practically all my life now. I am the epitome of “True Crime, Glass of Wine, In Bed by Nine”. If you are anything like me, I’d love to recommend my top three true crime podcasts that keep me glued to the obsession on a weekly basis.

My Top Three True Crime Podcasts1. Sword and Scale

Sword and Scale is my top choice for true crime aficionados. This podcast is hosted by Mike Boudet, who has his own controversy surrounding him from time to time. He will not shy away from telling his audience exactly how he feels, and he is unapologetic in this regard. His views/takes aren’t for everyone, and I often take what he says with a grain of salt. But, there is something intriguing about his “I don’t give a damn” attitude which has helped garner success, even when his podcast was almost canceled due to controversy. After he was briefly replaced as host, he took the podcast he created and went to a private forum where he could create his own content without having to worry about censoring himself. The reason this is my top podcast is because he is great at telling a story and often includes audio, such as police interviews, victim interviews, 911 calls, etc. Sword and Scale is not for the faint of heart, as it can be quite graphic, and if you like a deeper dive into the world of true crime, this one may be for you. It is my guilty pleasure that this has become my number one.

2. Casefile

I’ve fallen in love with this true crime podcast based out of Australia. The host remains anonymous which leaves behind a certain element of mystery to the origin of this podcast. He has chosen to remain anonymous to focus on telling the stories of the victims without the focus being on himself.  In a world where most people are constantly trying to find a way to bring the spotlight onto themselves, I love that this podcast avoids the trap of fame and makes sure to not glorify the individuals who committed the crimes. The host is the sole storyteller in this podcast which makes for great bedtime story listening.  If you are struggling to fall asleep and are okay with drifting off to sleep with murder playing in the background, then this might be the podcast for you…user discretion advised when operating a motor vehicle.

My Top Three True Crime Podcasts3. My Favorite Murder

Georgia Hardstark and Karen Kilgariff really know how to tell a good crime story. The two can place elements of comedy together while being sensitive to break up some of the horribleness of the crimes committed.  This podcast feels more like a group of women sitting on the couch with blankets and a bottle of wine.  If you are on a long car ride with a spouse this one might not be the best to test the waters.  I know the banter of the podcasters is hilarious, in my opinion, but drives my husband crazy and might drive yours crazy as well. These two find it hard to focus on the story and often waver off topic, which at first, was quite annoying to be honest, along with their California dialect. But, it does break up the heavy content and makes the material more digestible. Fans consider themselves “murderinos”. My Favorite Murder found its success several years ago which has led to sold out shows across the world and it remains one of the most highly rated true crime podcasts in existence.
