Why I Don’t Get My Nails Done

I recently had someone ask me why I don’t get regular pedicures.

The answer was easy: I don’t have the time.

The question instantly sparked a need for me to write this post.

I have three kiddos eight and under and a husband who works away most of the time. Oh, and I work full time and am in school as well. My plate is full. My plate is overflowing.

My time is precious and I just don’t have enough of it.

Between reading a chapter every night, working my full-time job, and feeding my kids, there is just not enough time for me.. and I am okay with that.

Don’t get me wrong, I would love to have some time to myself, but at this point in my life, it’s just not a priority.

My priorities three kids in, are much different than my priorities before kids.

Priorities now include:

  • Getting my kids to bed at a decent time
  • Making sure everyone is fed
  • Taking care of 3 dogs
  • Cleaning an entire house almost on my own
  • Reading a chapter a night
  • Working’ on my fitness (Yes, Fergie)
  • Taking tests on time
  • Laundry
  • Dishes

You know, that never-ending list of chores and things to do… those are my priorities.

My nails should not be the judge of my success or failures.  The paint on my nails or lack of shouldn’t symbolize the amount of pride I take in my appearance or how “good” I am at being a woman.

Sometimes, as women, we have to put ourselves on the back burner, we have to be last, we have to take care of our families first. That is what I signed up for.

and you know what.. that’s okay.

I challenge you, next time you look at a woman and her nails are not done, don’t judge her for it. Maybe she doesn’t have the time, maybe she doesn’t have the money. Maybe it’s just not her “thing”. Maybe it is just not a priority.

Author’s Note: I am more jealous of you than you know if you do have time to get those regular pedicures. Please think of me.

  1. Don’t live your life for other people. If you enjoy getting pedicures then MAKE TIME. Being a mother involves a lot of self sacrifice, but you also have to make sure to take care of yourself as well. It’s OK to take a few minutes for yourself once a month to get a pedicure, read a book, or do whatever you enjoy!
