A Simple, Scenic Daycation

If you’re looking for a great place to unwind with the family, look no further than Cypremort Point Beach. I recently took a day trip there with the kids — and even brought our cocker spaniel along. We had an amazing time!

Easy Drive from Lafayette

Getting there is a breeze. It’s just about an hour south of Lafayette. Take LA-182 S (U.S. Hwy 90 E) to CR-211, then make a slight left onto LA-83 S. From there, turn right onto LA-319 S, and continue for about 5 miles until you reach Beach Lane. Look for the signs and the dock — you’ll know you’ve arrived.

You can head out early in the morning to grab a prime spot on the beach or leave around noon for a laid-back afternoon trip. The beach is open daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., so there’s plenty of time to enjoy it.

Affordable Fun for Everyone

Like most Louisiana state parks, the entrance fee is very reasonable. You pay a $3 admission fee per person. Admission is free for children under 3 and seniors 62 and older.

The best part? The beach is pet-friendly! Just keep your furry friends on a leash and clean up after them.

We packed a cooler with snacks and drinks, loaded up the SUV, and hit the road. We stayed for about four hours — just enough time to relax and soak up the sun.

It gets hot, so don’t forget sunscreen in your summer bag, hydrating drinks for you and the kids, and plenty of water for your pets.

Beach Activities the Whole Family Will Love

Cypremort Point Beach is a half-mile stretch of man-made beach along Vermilion Bay. There’s no shortage of fun:

  • Swimming and sunbathing
  • Sandcastle building and water games
  • A beach volleyball net (which we definitely took advantage of!)

More Than Just the Beach

What else can you do at Cypremort Point Beach? Honestly — what can’t you do? The beach is located in Cypremort Point State Park, which has so many outdoor activities to choose from.

  • Hiking: Several beautiful nature trails to explore
  • Fishing: A 100-foot pier with rod holders and fish-cleaning stations
  • Wildlife Watching: We spotted birds and rabbits. You may see deer and other wildlife.

Plan an Overnight Stay

If you want to extend your visit, there are great overnight options.

  • Waterfront Cabins: Rent a water-front cabin — complete with a kitchen and amenities.
  • RV Sites: The park also offers RV sites with full hookups.
  • Nearby Airbnb Rentals: Want more options? Book an off-site Airbnb in the area.

Amenities That Make It Easy

If you’re looking for comfort and convenience, get there early to grab one of the canopy-covered picnic areas — each equipped with a table and BBQ pit. These shaded spots are perfect for beachside relaxing and family meals, but fair warning: they fill up fast!

We brought our own tent and some quick bites and enjoyed a relaxing picnic on the beach.

We also took advantage of other helpful amenities like restrooms with showers and outdoor faucets (which we used to rinse off our sandy pet and gear).

There’s even a boat launch for easy access to Vermilion Bay. We saw several kayakers and boaters out enjoying the water. It’s a great option if you want to explore beyond the shore.

Cypremort Point Beach has everything you need for a fun, comfy beach day. If you’re looking for more ideas on what to do during your visit, check out the Louisiana State Parks’ website for activities, updates, and more trip-planning tips.

Final Thoughts

Whether you’re planning a quick day trip or a relaxing weekend getaway, Cypremort Point Beach offers a peaceful, family-friendly escape that’s truly worth the drive from Lafayette. From splashing in the waves and strolling along the sandy shore to hiking scenic nature trails and spotting wildlife, there’s something for everyone — with plenty of adventures to enjoy and memories waiting to be made.
