It’s Soup Season!
Nothing beats the warm, rich flavors of a yummy soup from your favorite bowl as soon as the first cool front comes around. I find peace when the aroma of soup drifts throughout the kitchen while I air out the house, allowing the breeze and the smell of sugar cane burning to invade my senses. I’m team “soup over pumpkin spice” and “chowder over cider.” As for making my own roux from scratch, I’ll pass; I’m going with “Savoies” every time. I’ve never been able to make a small soup; I could feed a tiny village with one pot, but as soon as the air turns crisp and that big pot comes out; this is the bat signal: “It’s Fall Y’all!”
Simple Fix
Soup doesn’t have to be an all-day affair, but if it is, the crock pot is your best friend! Prepping your ingredients, throwing them in a crockpot, setting it, and forgetting it until you return home from a long day at work is an easy way to feel like June Cleaver when you can’t stand over the stove and cook all day.
My favorite Crockpot soup has to be Crockpot Potato Soup with Hash browns

I absolutely enjoy indulging in this Potato Soup and it goes great with a big grilled cheese sandwich. You can jazz up your Sunday by creating a Potato Soup Bar, including bacon, chives, croutons, cheeses, sour cream, and other condiments in a buffet style line, allowing everyone to create their favorite customized soup.
Comfort In Chaos
Soup is meant to comfort you and is reminiscent of cool, relaxing days of football on the big screen, under a warm blanket, with soup from your favorite bowl, and full bellies. Listen to a book while cooking your soup and enjoy a glass of wine.

Way To Go
Life gets hectic and sometimes we’re ripping and running and just don’t have time to cook a soup. Family gets sick, time gets away from us, sending dinner to family during bereavement, break up, loss of appetite are all reasons to just order to go. Lafayette has great food including soup. A few local faves include
- Lentil Soup from Athena’s
- Cream of Broccoli from Destination India
- Pho from Saigon Noodles
- Crawfish Boil Soup from KK’s Kitchen
- Soup Flight from Sundays Soda Fountain
As we welcome Fall and usher in a new season, we gather the seeds of cherished memories with the hope to plant more as we anticipate the joy of the holidays ahead. My wish is that our hearts overflow with happiness, our homes are filled with loved ones and our faces shine with smiles.
