Living The Soft Life

Living The Soft Life

Lately, my social media feeds have been full of videos, reels, and posts about the soft girl era. So just what is this soft girl era? This thought is said to have originated amongst Nigerian social media influencers, that has since gone viral. The term refers to a lifestyle and mindset that embraces the feminine energy, self-care, and personal growth. It stressed the importance of being intentional about creating a safe space where one can let their guard down and be delicate, vulnerable, and expressive. It prioritized one’s physical and mental well-being by setting boundaries, being introspective and asking for help. So how can we as busy moms live our soft girl era?

Prioritize Self

One way I have tapped into my ‘soft girl era,’ is by prioritizing myself and my health. In the last year, I took control of my health. I changed my eating habits and incorporated physical activity. I have my day structured to allow myself at least 45 minutes a day for physical activity. This is usually very early in the morning. By doing this, I am spending time with myself, putting myself first and investing in my health. I also use this time to pray and set my intentions and plans for the day.

Other ways to prioritize yourself is to take necessary alone time. Depending on how hectic your life is, this can simply be waking up before everyone and having a cup of coffee, reading a book, praying, or mindlessly scrolling on your phone. It can also be going on a solo date. One of my all-time favs is a self-care night. I give my self a facial, shave, exfoliate, and do all the skin care things while listening to music, an audiobook or watching YouTube videos.

Splurge on Yourself

As we all know mom guilt it real. Especially when it comes to spending money on yourself. I have somewhat learned how to push through that guilt. I have learned that I deserve to take care of myself and reward myself. Since I have started my health journey, I like to reward myself with cute workout clothes. Never mind the fact that I workout at home and no one sees me, it makes me feel good. I also have splurged on a water cup.  Not the well know bougie water bottle, but a dupe.

Living The Soft Life

As I am getting older, I have realized the importance of skin care. While there are tons of great inexpensive skin care products on the market, sometimes a girl has to splurge. I recently splurged on a fancy eye cream. I need to take care of these Gucci bags before they become Birkin bags!

Daily Affirmations

Speak kind words to yourself! Uplift yourself! Simple as that. You have to be your own hype man. You can journal these affirmations, put them on post its on your mirror, or recite them in the car before you start your day. Most times we are our own worst enemy and we tear ourselves down. In our ‘soft girl’ era, we change that narrative. We have to remind ourselves that we are worthy, beautiful, deserving, and queens.

Living The Soft Life

I am sure that living the soft life will seem selfish in the beginning, but when you take care of yourself you are taking care of your family. So I urge you to dig deep and find your soft girl side. Find what works for you and brings you peace. Live the soft life!
