My Favorite Homeschool Curriculum For My 3 Year Old
Let me start out by saying a three year old should play play play! We also read a ton of books and explore nature as much as possible. He follows big sister to all of her homeschool events and learns a ton when he’s spending time with other children. I won’t formally homeschool him until he is in Kindergarten. With that being said, there are a few gentle resources that I use to get ideas of how to best teach my toddler. Right now, all of his learning is through play. We’re currently learning the ABCs and counting to five. We have a bunch of magnetic letters to help him learn to recognize the alphabet.
Even if you don’t plan to homeschool, these are great resources to encourage learning at a young age.
Before Five in a Row is the sweetest guide to reading good books to children. Featuring classics like “The Snowy Day” and “Good Night Moon,” this guide gives hands on ideas for bringing the books to life. It’s not only a helpful reading list, but it encourages you and your child to interact more with the book to enhance their learning. This gentle introduction to the alphabet, good books, math concepts, science, art, and music has been fun for both me and my son. After we finish this book, we plan to continue with the next book in the series titled “More Before Five in a Row.”

Little Hands to Heaven is a Christian curriculum for ages 2-4. This curriculum teaches the alphabet and Bible concepts with a gentle hands on approach. They include music, drama, and art in addition to reading activities.

Delightful Reading Level One, Playing with Letters and Sounds has a ton of ideas for teaching the alphabet and letter sounds. Some of them I’ve already been using! This book gives great suggestions for making learning fun and using play to teach your child.
The Homegrown Preschooler is a great resource for any parent to have. It’s not really a curriculum. The first half of the book is education for parents to learn more about their toddler and preschooler. The last half of the book has a bunch of hands on learning activities. Using things around the house, the activities are easy to implement and provide hands on learning that’s fun for you and your child.

Our Preschool Life is actually a subscription based service. Each month you get a box with a magazine, a new children’s book (you pick the age), and supplies for a few crafts. It comes with an age appropriate chore chart to encourage things like hygiene and picking up your toys. It also includes a nature book with nature stickers for your young learner to document what they see in nature.
