The Hilliard Art Museum: Come Play and Learn With Us!
The Hilliard Art Museum is proud to offer a variety of programming for children and parents! We are committed to providing fun and engaging educational opportunities for visitors of all ages. Make plans to stop by our Visitors Services desk to pick up materials for use during self-guided museum visits. Have fun in the museum as your children go on scavenger hunts, play “I Spy” and practice “noticing deeply” as they tour the galleries. Be sure to visit our Learning Labs and play space in the upstairs Flex Gallery and throughout the museum. Our student workers are always happy to provide information about specific exhibits and works, and our museum store has fantastic educational supplemental materials to complete your visit to the Hilliard!
Mark your calendar for our monthly special programs offered at the Hilliard:
Yoga in the Galleries
The Hilliard Art Museum invites you to join us on the second Saturday of each month at 11:00 for a donation-based yoga class with certified instructor Neil Gresham. Please bring your own yoga mat. Space is limited to the first twenty-five participants.
Let’s Make Art!
The Hilliard Art Museum is excited to offer monthly drop-in art making on the third Saturday of each month from 10 am -12 pm. Work with a local teaching artist to create a piece of take-home artwork inspired by the upcoming season, holiday or the museum’s current exhibitions.
Art activities are designed for ages 4 and up. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Participation is free with admission.
On the horizon for the Hilliard:
Our new Learning Lab at The A. Hays Town Building will provide a dynamic and enriching educational experience space for children and families of Acadiana. It will foster the intellectual development, creativity, critical thinking, and intergenerational collaboration inspired by the arts. Be sure to join our mailing list and follow our social media posts for updates to the progress and future programming. Our new, reimagined space will help us provide:
- Engaging and Interactive Learning: Our lab will include a hands-on environment for art lovers of all ages to engage with artworks, educational materials and exhibits. We encourage active participation and inquiry-based learning, which can enhance understanding and retention of knowledge.
- Exploration of Varied, Differentiated and Diverse Subject Matter: Our museum education staff will offer a wide range of activities related to current exhibitions. A learning lab within a museum setting will offer learners the opportunity to explore these a host of subject matter in a dynamic and immersive way.
- Collaboration and Teamwork: Our Learning Lab will encourage collaboration and teamwork among students and families in the community and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette by offering group projects, interactive exhibits and cooperative learning activities. Through collaborative teaching and learning, we enhance communication skills and learn to respect diverse perspectives.
- Skill Development: We plan to offer workshops, classes, and demonstrations that focus on specific skills in the arts. By acquiring new skills in a hands-on environment, children can enhance their creativity, problem-solving abilities, and critical thinking skills.
