Lafayette Be the Change Spotlight :: Introducing Progressive Baptist Church Outreach Ministry
This month for our “Be the Change Spotlight,” we’d like to introduce you to Progressive Baptist Church Outreach Ministry, an organization who is committed to benevolence outreach. Their mission is to change lives in the communities they serve through feeding the hungry and recognizing the worth and dignity of every person they reach. They are committed to treating every person with respect and compassion regardless of their status or reason for needing assistance. The Progressive Baptist Church collaborates to build strong relationships and partnerships ensuring that everyone is provided access to all resources in an effort to better serve the community.
How Progressive Baptist Church Outreach Ministry got started
The outreach ministry was established in 2000 with the goal of restoring hope and providing opportunities for people to become all that God intends them to be. They put Christian faith into action through service to the community. In 2005, when hurricane Katrina moved in, they housed over 100 families at the outreach ministry, most of whom still reside in Lafayette, and some are now members of Progressive Baptist Church.
What Progressive Baptist Church Outreach Ministry does in the community
Progressive Baptist Church provides groceries biweekly through their foodnet program (on Wednesdays and Fridays, excluding the first week of every month), utility assistance, mortgage assistance, bus tickets, IDs, gas cards, clothing, and hotel stays.
