Lafayette Hidden Gem :: Lucia Bakehouse
When I randomly found Lucía Bakehouse’s account on Instagram, I was immediately intrigued! The Viennois-style bakeshop’s Instagram feed was filled with images of delicious and unique looking pastries that I had never seen anything quite like! I had no idea that a bakehouse like this existed in Lafayette, LA!
As I scrolled their account a little further, I recognized their shop as the old Bonne Vie Macarons’ location! I added Lucía Bakehouse to my ongoing list on my phone titled “things to try in Lafayette”!
Lucía Bakehouse is a small batch bakery that concentrates on viennois-style baking. The bakehouse started out doing popups in Downtown Lafayette, and now have a brick and mortar shop! Their signature item is the brioche-stuffed donuts (bombolonis), and they also serve a variety of sweet and savory pastries!
Lucía Bakehouse has limited hours during the week, and they often sell out on Saturdays. The bake shop is only open on the weekdays during the hours that I am normally at work, so I had to be strategic about how I wanted to visit their shop! I went during my work’s fall break, and I made sure to go early in the day since I wasn’t sure if they usually sell out during the week!
My experience visiting Lucía Bakehouse was so perfect! Their shop is gorgeous, and truly felt like I was stepping into another city far away from Lafayette. The ambiance was beautiful, quiet, yet inviting! There was plenty of cozy seating for all the customers visiting. They even had some simple blocks available for my daughter to play with, which I was so thankful for! It was extremely hard to choose what to order from the many pastries they had available at the counter. I ended up ordering a pear & brie danish and vanilla cappuccino for myself, and a vanilla bombolonis for my daughter.
Both pastries were absolutely delicious. The drizzle of honey on my danish made every bite absolute perfection! The vanilla bombolonis was very similar to a stuffed donut, which is the perfect choice for kids (and adults!! ????). Lucía Bakehouse is the perfect spot in town for a little mid-morning weekday date, an outing with your child, or a quick spot to grab a treat and coffee with a friend!
