Coffee Chronicles :: The Never-Ending Cycle Of Coffee
For some of us moms, coffee is the elixir of life, the fuel that keeps us moving through all the things thrown at us daily. The relationship with our beloved cup of Joe is a never-ending journey that we can’t seem to navigate quite right. From the morning routine to surviving the coffee crash, I’m sure most of us can relate to the coffee grind.
The Morning Routine – A Tale of Two Moms
Ah, the morning routine, a battleground of chaos and a fight to beat time. Here, we encounter two types of moms. The first is the lucky mom who manages to savor her first cup of coffee in blissful solitude before the kids awake, relishing every sip of that warm, life-giving brew. Then there’s the forgetful mom, who can’t remember where she put her mug, only to find it during the inevitable shoe search while racing to get out the door, cold and abandoned. If only she’d had that morning motivator, she might have been in the carpool lane sooner.
The Absent-Minded Mid-Morning Cup
As the day progresses, our coffee consumption enters the mid-morning stage. With our second cup in hand, our minds wander through the endless to-do list. Taking absent-minded sips, the dark roasted taste barely leaves an impression, as our minds race through after-school activities (is it soccer or dance today?), grocery shopping, and that forgotten load of laundry that has been teasing us all week. The mud water sloshing around in the faded to-go coffee mug is merely an accessory to the multitasking madness.
The Afternoon Pick-Me-Up Cup
AKA the saving grace that sparks a jolt of energy to power through the day’s remaining tasks. This cup is meant to provide that extra push, but in reality, it often leads to spontaneous bursts of productivity, veering off into tangents that weren’t even on the original to-do list. And let’s be honest, at this point, our caffeine intake has already exceeded medical recommendations.
Surviving the Crash
As evening approaches, the caffeine crash hits. Thoughts turn to a quick drive-thru iced latte, but alas, it’s time to wind down and tend to the family, starting dinner, helping with homework, and lamenting about the things on your list that got passed over. So instead we daydream about that delicious first cup of coffee we will have tomorrow and the promise of accomplishment it will bring.
