The Honest Truth :: I Hate Working Out
I hate to exercise y’all, like hate it. I see women on my socials who love working out, waking up early and going to the gym, being so committed and consistent; that is SO not me. I don’t like to wake up early because I already don’t feel like I get enough sleep. What parent does? I’ve tried going to the gym and it’s just torture for me. However, I do know that it’s important to get in some type of physical activity daily.
Here are a few ways I manage to get myself moving without taking a trip to the gym ::
I enjoy walking outside.
Yes I know it’s hot in Louisiana y’all, but it’s something about nature and its beauty that calms me and makes me smile. At my previous job, I’d take a break and walk several times a day; it was a way for me to decompress and escape the cold building. All these mini 15-30 minute walks really added up and helped me physically and mentally. Where I currently work there isn’t much space to walk, but I still pop in my earbuds and get out and walk. The view isn’t the same, but my body and mind need that walk. If you have some spare time at the office, it could be 10 minutes, use that time as an opportunity to exercise. No, it’s not like going to the gym, but 5-10 mini walks a week can really add up, and you’d be surprised how good it makes you feel.
Many of us work from home, and it can be a bit of a gift and a curse. A gift because I love working from home, I’m able to work and get many things done. It’s also a bit of a curse because I don’t go outside when I work from home. A good friend of mine sent me the perfect solution for that problem, a walking pad from Amazon.
I love this walking pad, y’all. You can walk while working because it has an attachment for your laptop.
You can walk while you’re taking a break or watching your favorite show. This walking pad is a game changer for me. And my husband even uses it sometimes. I’ll turn it on and before you know it I’ve walked a good 30 minutes to an hour, all while indoors!
Lastly, I like to have fun with my kids and naturally exercise.
I’ll go outside and skate with them, walk around the block, or play a game with them outdoors. When we go somewhere, I make sure that I’m walking with them the entire time, you’d be surprised how much exercise you get just by trying to keep up with your kids.
I’ve accepted the fact that I’ll never be a person that loves the gym and that’s ok. I’ve learned that you have to find things that work for you. Also, don’t be hard on yourself because the world does that enough for us.
